Winter mountain leader award

This award scheme provides training and assessment in the technical and group management skills required by those who wish to lead groups in the U.K mountains in the winter. Like the summer award the intended use of the rope to safeguard people is not within its remit.

The courses involve practical time on the hill. including an overnight expedition in a snowhole, along with discussions and presentations on syllabus topics. More details of the award and how to register can be found on the MLT website on the link below. The minimum number of participants required to run these courses is four. The training is a six day course and the assessment ran over five days. Before attending a training course candidates should have logged a good range of winter mountain walking experience. Details of the pre-requesites are in the course syllabus.

We will arrange course accomodation in good self catering for those that need it. This cost is extra to the course fee's and is payed direct by candidates. If you wish us to come and run a course for your organisation at your location please get in touch.
