Outdoor Qualification Courses

Richard is an approved Mountain Leader Training course director and provider for WGL, SPA, Summer and Winter Mountain Leader awards. He has many years experience delivering training and assessment courses.

Outdoor qualifications, or National governing body awards (NGB's) are the recognised awards to hold in the UK to lead people in adventurous activities. Indeed, to take young people on adventurous activities, in a professional capacity, is in many cases illegal without holding the appropriate qualifications.

NGB's are administered by the relevant governing body. In the case of Mountaineering and climbing this is Mountain Leader Training. The Scottish arm of this organisation is the Mountain Leader Training Scotland (MLTS). You can get more information by clicking the MLTS logo below.

Once registered on an award scheme you can undertake training and assessment. these are seperate courses, with people taking time to consolidate their skills before coming back for an assessment course. These courses can only be run by an approved course provider.

Mountain Motion are an approved provider for SPA, WGL, Summer and Winter ML awards. We run our own courses here in Fort William and are also regularly asked to run courses for other organisations such as the Mountaineering Council of Scotland.
