Ski Mountain Leader Course

February 15, 2012 at 6:22 PM

Having great fun this week, even if the skiing isn't stellar. Am on a Mountain Ski Leader course being ran by Ian Sherrington. The course has not been ran for a couple of years so its a very open course and the other participants are all super experienced mountain professionals. There is myself, Di Gilbert, Mark Chadwick and Heather Morning.

Today we were on Aonach Mor, over the back looking at roework, anchors and looking after groups on steep ground. First run in the back corries was really nice once we were in after going in at Yellowbelly. Was starting to soften quite a bit by the second drop in.

News from Ben nevis today is that the ice is still hanging in higher up, and despite what is being stated on various places, Point 5 and everything above is still climbable, if a little thin. Observatory Buttress is quite good and then above that all the routes are good.

Looks like Winter returns this Saturday which will be great to get some fresh snow and colder temps.

I am working on the Ben on Saturday and then am at the CIC Hut Sun - Tuesday with some of my sponsors for a get together and chat about gear and kit. There will be a few other sponsored climbers there as well such as Greg Boswell and Di Gilbert as well as some talented climbers from Outdoor Research and the Mountain Boot Company. Should be a good few days.
