A better day winter climbing on Ben Nevis
Jan 04, 2014
A good day on ben nevis taking Luca and Sammy on their first winter climb. There was an awful lot of avalanche debris around the mountain, See the Ben Nevis conditions page for some pictures. We did No3 Gully Buttress, that old perennial!. It had its fair amount of unconsolidated snow and slightly spooky snow as well. Anchors are difficult to dig out as well but all in all a grand day and a lovely top out to some views and even a bit of sun. Down via the red burn as No4 has a huge cornice and is full of slab at the moment.
Approaching the second belay.
Topping out on the final steepening. All smiles for a first winter route!
