Winter climbing and ice climbing courses across Scotland, Ben nevis, Glencoe and the Skye Cuillin ridge
Running the avalanche awareness courses with Heather and the Mcofs this weekend. Two wild and wet days although at least at the end of today it was definitely turning into proper winter high ion the mountain. Have a look at the Ben Nevis conditions for more info.
A good couple of days. Its interesting to reflect on how Avalanche education has changed so much in the past fifteen years. Back then we would go and dig holes in the snow all day and lean heavily on what we saw to come up with on the hill judgements. Now it is much more orientated towards gaining all the information through the planning stage and the walk into the hill. By the time you are at your route or location, you know what the answer is!!
Its still interesting to do a snow pit though to see how the snow pack is evolving. Its such a dynamic thing.
Digging a wild and windy snow pit in Corrie na Ciste, ben Nevis.
Heading up to try and find some fresh windslab towards Glovers Chimney.
