An adventure ice climbing day, Bakveien, Upper gorge, Rjukan. Then shopping!!

Jan 09, 2015

A great days climbing on an interesting route today, Bakveien, in the upper gorge. Easy approach and three pitches of really characterful climbing with thin short steep pillars, a slabby chimney and slightly hollow upper ice! Ive always liked this route and it didn't fail to disappoint. The route on the right, Nye Vermokfoss was a bit thin getting to the pillar but the pillar looked climbable. (There is an abolokov at the top of it so you could climb bakveien, and then rap and do the pillar as well!).

We then went shopping in the afternoon! Well, you have to peruse the local wares at east once on a trip.

Thoughts for tomorrow are perhaps Svaddefossen or Tjonnstadbergfossen above the village looked ok.
