About Mountain Motion

Mountain Motion is a small independant mountaineering company run by Richard Bentley. We specialise in providing the highest quality guiding, instruction and advice in all areas of mountaineering, from summer scrambling to performance winter climbing clinics, filming safetywork and technical advice. Richard has held the Mountaineering Instructors Certificate, the highest UK based award for over ten years. 

Richard is a sponsored winter climber, a member of the MIC org community and the association of mountaineering instructors. He is also a course director for Mountain Leader Training UK for SPA, summer and winter mountain leader courses.

He regularly delivers Winter safety lectures, avalanche courses and other skills courses for the Mountaineering Council of Scotland. He has climbed across the world and also worked as the head of mountaineering for various outdoor organisations. He is a member of the Lochaber Mountain Rescue team and occasionally works as a Ski Patroller on Aonach Mor

For the past ten years we have been based in Fort William with Ben Nevis and Glencoe our home patch! Unlike many other organisations, we live here in Northwest Scotland, rather than just visit occasionally. This means we know the area extremely well and can ensure you get the most out of your experiences here in Scotland. Indeed, we annually run courses for other guides and instructors on how to get the best out of the local mountains.

Winter climbing and ice climbing on Ben Nevis is our speciality, running courses throughout the winter and also staying up at the CIC hut.

Richard's enthusiasm for the mountains is as great now as it was twenty years ago. In particular he has a passion for winter climbing and is happy to discuss routes and epics (not ethics!!) with anyone.

Our instructors and Guides

Practically all of our courses and guiding are ran by Richard himself. Occasionally we bring in other top level guides and instructors to work with us. They will all hold appropriatte national qualification, usually BMG or MIC and are some of the cream of British mountaineering. People such as Di Gilbert, Dave Hollinger, Rob Jarvis, Kenny Grant, Blair Fyffe.
