About us

Mountain Motion is a small independent mountaineering company run by Richard Bentley. The company specialises in providing quality guiding, instruction and advice in all areas of mountaineering, from mountain navigation courses to performance winter climbing clinics. Richard holds the Mountaineering Instructors Certificate, the highest UK based award and is a sponsored winter climber and associate instructor at Glenmore Lodge, Scotland's national centre.

Richard has climbed across the world. He has also worked as head of Mountaineering for various outdoor organisations.

Mountain Motion is based just outside Fort William with Ben Nevis and Glencoe our home patch!. Unlike many other guides and instructors, we live here in Northwest Scotland, rather than just visit occasionally.  This means we know the area really well and can ensure you get the most out of your mountaineering experiences here. Winter climbing and ice climbing is our speciality, we run winter climbing courses and ice climbing courses from our base in Fort William.

Richard's enthusiasm for the mountains is as great now as it was fifteen years ago. In particular he has a passion for winter climbing and is happy to discuss routes and epics (not ethics!!) with anyone.

We hope you find this site useful. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions.
